When LHP becomes an option

  • Internal hemorrhoids that bleed, prolapse, or keep coming back
  • Symptoms that haven't improved with fiber, creams, or banding
  • A strong preference to avoid the pain and downtime of traditional surgery

LHP isn't the right choice for every hemorrhoid. Large combined internal and external hemorrhoids, a thrombosed external hemorrhoid, or a fissure may need a different approach. The hemorrhoid's anatomy determines which treatment fits.

How LHP works

  • A thin laser fiber is placed inside the hemorrhoid through a tiny opening
  • Controlled laser energy shrinks the swollen tissue from within
  • Over the following weeks, the tissue contracts and scars down into place
  • The surface skin and lining are left intact

The tissue is shrunk, not cut away, which preserves normal anatomy. All involved hemorrhoids are treated in a single session.

Your visit

  • A private exam to confirm the diagnosis and whether LHP is your best option
  • A procedure of about 20 minutes, under sedation and local anesthetic
  • Home the same day
  • A follow-up visit at three weeks to check healing

Expect mild soreness and some swelling for several days, managed with simple pain relief and sitz baths. Light bleeding or discharge is normal as the tissue heals. Most people return to desk work within a few days.

What it costs

LHP is billed through your insurance. Most patients still have some out-of-pocket cost, such as a deductible, copay, or coinsurance. Our billing team reviews your benefits and gives you your expected cost before your procedure.

Performed by Dr. Kratz, at a surgery center

Dr. Kratz performs every LHP procedure personally, at the surgery center where he operates. He offers the full range of hemorrhoid treatment, from in-office banding through LHP to traditional hemorrhoidectomy, and recommends the option that fits your anatomy, not whichever is newest.
